Supporting Need

The majority of children’s needs are met through high-quality teaching and our Universal Offer, which is underpinned by the principle “Essential for Some, Useful for All.” This approach ensures that inclusive strategies designed to support individual pupils also enhance learning and access for all children.

Universal Offer (Tier 1) at Rivers

Staff at Rivers Primary Academy work collaboratively to deliver a co-constructed, evidence-based Universal Offer that underpins high-quality teaching and learning for all pupils.

Targeted (Tier 2)

Targeted SEN support is provided for pupils who require additional help beyond high-quality classroom teaching. This support is carefully planned and time-limited, focusing on specific areas of need such as learning, communication, or social and emotional development. Interventions are delivered by staff, monitored closely, and reviewed regularly to ensure they are effective and lead to positive outcomes.

Intensive (Tier 3)

Intensive SEN support is provided for pupils with more complex or long-term needs who require a higher level of personalised provision. This may include specialist interventions, individual support plans, and involvement from external professionals such as Educational Psychology, Speech and Language Therapy, or Occupational Therapy. Support is carefully coordinated, reviewed regularly, and focused on achieving meaningful outcomes to help pupils access learning, build independence, and thrive in our school.
