Rivers Primary Academy praised in Ofsted report Learn More

Rivers Primary Academy has been awarded the School Games Mark Gold Award, recognising the fantastic engagement and participation of our students in competitive school sport.
Launched in 2012, The School Games Mark is a Government-led award scheme facilitated by The Youth Sport Trust. It aims to reward schools for their commitment to the development of Physical Education and School Sport across their curriculum and in the community. We are delighted to have been recognised for our success in this area.
Rivers Primary Academy have competed in a range of different sports during 2021/22 including: Football, athletics, hockey, badminton, tag rugby, cricket, archery, indoor curling, tennis and dodgeball involving both boys and girls. There has been 133 different pupils that have represented the school at the 26 different sporting event during the academic year in competitive, friendly and festival events.
As part of our Enrichment provision for all years, we have a range of sporting activities on offer afterschool each week which during the year included basketball, multi sport, dance, gymnastics, kickboxing, football, tag rugby, tennis, golf and rounders. 169 different pupils attended an afterschool sporting club during the academic year.
Rivers Primary Academy also provides extra Physical Education sessions for children that need support with physical motor skills, fitness, confidence in school or sport to ensure our program is fully inclusive to all. These sessions are provided for 40 children per term in small groups of no more than 7, with children enjoying and progressing in these sessions fantastically.
Rivers Primary Academy also offer a range of special sporting events during the academic year for all pupils in school. This included the Fun Santa Dash as part of the London Marathon schools program, scoot fit delivered to all pupils delivering scooting in a fun way from trained instructors, Commonwealth Games athlete visit of Tom Davies and a traditional school sports day. Sporting activities are also offered to pupils as a reward for high level of attendance with glow in the dark dodgeball, nerf wars and battle archery days all being organised for pupils.
Experiences to spectate at high level sporting events have also been offered to pupils with a trip to the National Indoor Arena for the All England International Badminton Tournament, and families offered free tickets to Women’s Football Super League matches for Aston Villa.
